Local climate change talk here March 1

On Thursday, March 1, at International House Davis a panel discussion on global climate change will take place at 7 p.m. The event is free. “Durban to Davis: Local Action Key to Tackling Climate Crisis” features speakers Nick Buxton of Transnational Institute who participated in the last three United Nations climate talks in Durban, Cancun and Copenhagen; Chris Jones of Cool California, a UC
Berkeley research associate; and Chris Granger of Cool Davis, co-cordinator of the Cool Davis Festival. Organizers say that despite ever more stark warnings from climate
scientists, politicians globally have been very slow to tackle global warming. The recent UN climate talks in Durban, South Africa, were no exception. What are the reasons for international inaction? How can people push for effective action to protect the planet for future generations? Can cities like Davis pioneer sustainable-living policies
and demonstrate how strategic investment in a low-carbon future can create healthy, vibrant communities?

These questions will be discussed by the speakers and the audience on
March 1. Refreshments will be served at the zero-waste event.
